Controller
Hertha Metals Inc. is seeking a dynamic and strategic Controller. As Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, including accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, tax compliance, and internal controls. You will play a key role in shaping the company’s financial infrastructure, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in financial processes while providing insights that drive strategic decision-making. This is a critical position for someone who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment and is eager to build and refine financial operations in a scaling organization. This position will report directly to the VP of Finance.
Location: Onsite in Conroe, TX (Greater Houston Area) or Remote
Reports To: VP of Finance
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
Oversee fundraising activities by supporting financial due diligence, investor reporting, and cap table management.
Partner with leadership to develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and key financial metrics to drive decision-making.
Prepare and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP or IFRS.
Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
Manage the budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
Create and track purchase orders, ensuring proper documentation and approval processes.
Assist with running payroll and addressing payroll-related issues and concerns to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time.
Coordinate audits and work closely with external auditors and tax advisors.
Ensure timely and accurate tax filings and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Monitor cash flow, investments, and financial risk management strategies.
Provide financial insights and recommendations to support executive decision-making.
Implement and optimize accounting systems and financial processes.
Work closely with external auditors, tax advisors, and legal teams to ensure compliance and best practices.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
Experience & Expertise
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA required).
Minimum 2 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably at a startup
Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and relevant financial regulations.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP) and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Strong leadership and team management abilities.
Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to stakeholders.
Experience in the steel industry is a plus.
Preferred Skills & Industry Knowledge
MBA in Finance, CPA, CFA, or CMA credentials are highly desirable. Expertise in commodity markets and carbon offIset mechanisms (voluntary & regulatory).
